About

Researchers at the University of Chicago are conducting a study to explore residency applicant decision making about where to apply to residency given the current political landscape around abortion and gender affirming care in more restrictive states. This study will explore what considerations and tradeoffs medical students make when applying to residency programs in the wake of the Dobbs decision and a wave of anti-transgender legislation. We will also discuss one’s identity as a Southerner and how legislation impacts one’s ability to practice abortion and gender affirming care in their state of origin. Lastly, we will explore how restrictive legislation surrounding abortion and transgender care may have affected residency applicants program choices.
