About
Hello Greenlight is a sexual health service platform designed with and for young people. It connects providers and young people in Illinois ages 12–24 in Illinois to sexual health care centered around adolescents—their rights, aspirations, and decisions. Our goal is to bridge the gap between young people and providers so that young people can be confident in their sexual health and have positive health outcomes.
What makes Hello Greenlight unique is its human-centered design approach: a research methodology focused on the needs of people that generates innovative solutions and strategies. Ci3 engages young people in the human-centered design process to explore the various things that affect their access to sexual health services. Drawing on their own experiences and those of their peers, young people generate and prototype new ways to improve care.
Recently Ci3 was awarded the Core77 Design for Social Impact Award for the co-design of adolescent-centered birth control patient tear sheets, a component of Hello Greenlights contraceptive counseling tool Hello Options! Click here to learn more about the tear sheets and Social Impact Award.

Hello Options!
Hello Options! is an all-in-one tool featuring physical replicas of multiple contraceptives: the pill, patch, ring, shot, IUD (copper and hormonal), implant, female condom, and male condom. Healthcare providers use this hands-on tool to give patients a better understanding of how all options look and function, and use it as a point of conversation. During the development of the tool, multiple health care experts were interviewed to learn how they counsel on birth control and the challenges they face. These conversations informed the development of prototypes that were further tested and refined through co-design sessions with young people and providers. To learn more, visit the Hello Options website and read the Ci3 Hello Options Research Brief.
Let’s chat
Let’s Chat is a tool designed to facilitate open, non-judgmental conversations between young people and their healthcare providers. Formatted as a deck of cards, the tool includes a range of sexual health questions that young people can read through while waiting in the exam room for their provider, with a suggestion that they select up to three questions to discuss. Prototypes were tested with young people, healthcare providers, and parents.
Hello Greenlight School Awareness Campaign
In September 2019, we launched the Hello Greenlight School Awareness Campaign to connect more students to mobile health units (MHUs) visiting their schools. The campaign incorporates a range of materials schools can use to communicate information about MHU schedules and services. Materials are designed to reach audiences that can influence students to use the MHU, such as parents, school administrators, and staff, and include public education components targeting students. Building on the adolescent-centered Hello Greenlight brand, we tested materials with MHU coordinators and providers as well as school staff to ensure the materials were relevant and valuable. With campaigns now launched in eight pilot schools, MHU coordinators will soon make the awareness campaign kits available in all the schools they serve.
